After eight highlight-packed seasons as a Bear, Devin Hesters career appears destined to finish elsewhere.

Hester, who shares the NFL record of 19 career return touchdowns with Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, will hit free agency Tuesday afternoon. And during an interview Wednesday on the NFL Network he confirmed what long has been suspected: the Bears will turn the page with no talks of bringing him back.

From my knowledge, I know that Chicago wants to go a different route with me, Hester said. All I can say is thanks to the fans (for) the support. Always been great to me, always been loyal. I couldnt want to play for a better city than those guys.

The Bears confirmed Hester's departure via a statement from general manager Phil Emery.

Hester averaged 27.6 yards per kickoff return and 14.2 yards per punt return last season, tying Sanders touchdown record with an 81-yard punt return against the Redskins in October.

Hester posted this to his Facebook page on Wednesday night: "To all my Chicago people...I can't thank you all enough for my time in Chicago. I've always said I wanted to retire a Chicago Bear but sometimes things don't work out the way we would like. Chicago will always hold a special place in my heart and if I am fortunate enough to break the return record, we will have all broken it together...no matter where I am. Thank you again and God Bless."

Hester said he hopes to retire officially as a Bear when his career ends and addressed the possibility of a reunion in Tampa Bay with new Buccaneers coach Lovie Smith, his head coach for his first seven NFL seasons.

I look at Lovie as my number one coach right now, Hester said. Because hes the one that took a chance on me coming out of the draft. He has all of my respect so if hes a guy who is going to shoot at me and want me to come play with him again, my arms are open.

Both series easily bested the night's biggest competition, Late Show With David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel Live!, who averaged a respective 2.59 and 2.44 million viewers.

The updated numbers are in line with the earlier arrival of metered-market overnights. The first night of Meyers' post-Tonight talk show pulled a 2.6 rating among households. That also ranks as Late Night's best Monday since 2005, besting the 2.3-rated premiere Jimmy Fallon had in the same hour. Meyers had the benefit of a visit from Vice President Joe Biden.

And for Fallon, his first night without a gargantuan Olympic lead-in brought a 4.5 rating among households,Tonight's best for a non-Olympic Monday showing sinceJay Leno's 2010 return to the show. (CNN) -- They braved bullets and bombs, risking their lives for their country.

Now -- having been passed over in some cases for decades due to their ethnicity or skin color -- the U.S. government is giving them their just reward.

President Barack Obama announced Friday that 24 Army veterans would receive the Medal of Honor -- the nation's highest military award, bestowed on U.S. troops who show "gallantry above and beyond the call of duty " -- for their combat actions in Vietnam, Korea and during World War II.

Many of their fellow soldiers received this medal long ago, for doing similar things in similar places at similar times. But not these 24 men.

In 2002, Congress -- as part of the Defense Authorization Act -- set up a review of Jewish and Hispanic veterans who served in combat since the middle of the century "to ensure those deserving the Medal Of Honor were not denied because of prejudice," explained the White House. The congressional action was later amended to open the door for any serviceman or woman denied the award due to discrimination.

Twenty-one of the new Medal of Honor recipients -- with last names including Garcia and Weinstein and Negron -- aren't alive to receive the award.

But three others, including Melvin Morris, are alive to be recognized.

Morris was 19 when he volunteered to go to Vietnam. In 1969, the Army Green Beret got hit multiple times by bullets during combat. Bleeding, he "charged into a hail of fire" to rescue his dead and wounded comrades in what the Army characterizes as a show of "determination possessed by few men."

His heroics were recognized in 1970 with the Army's Distinguished Service Cross award.

Now 72, Morris -- who is black -- will wear his country's highest military honor.

So, too, will Santiago J. Erevia, a native Texan. The radio-telephone operator was caring for wounded colleagues in 1969 in Vietnam when his position came under attack. According to the Military Times, "without hesitation Specialist Erevia crawled from one wounded man to another," charged while armed toward the hostile fire, before eventually returning to take care of the injured troops he'd left behind.

The last surviving new Medal of Honor recipient is Jose Rodela, who like Morris and Erevia also won a Distinguished Service Cross. While commanding a mobile strike force in Vietnam, Rodela was "wounded in the back and head by rocket shrapnel while recovering a wounded comrade," according to a military commendation, yet he still single-handedly "assaulted and knocked out (a) rocket position" before returning to lead his men.

One of those who will posthumously receive the award is Leonard Kravitz, an assistant machine gunner in the Korean War. He is the uncle and namesake of actor and rock musician Lenny Kravitz.

Retired Marine Col. Harvey Barnum, who is white, says he is eager to welcome all the new award recipients into the fold.

Barnum, who earned a Medal of Honor himself in 1967 for his service in Vietnam, said he "had heard rumors ... that there were certain people that people thought should have received the medal."

Now that they're finally being justly recognized, Barnum said, "I'll look forward to putting my arms around them, and calling them brother, and saying welcome home."

If you were hoping to hear a beautiful rendition of the national anthem, you better hope you missed the beginning of the NFC Championship game. Before the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks were set to kick off, Ann Wilson, the lead signer from Heart, graced the CenturyLink Field crowd with her voice.

Unfortunately, it was a little rough.

After starting off admirably, things took a turn for the worst.

A little cracking and some off-key belting had everyone wishing that there was another person rocking the mic. Hell, Macklemore probably would have done a better job.

Lets just hope that the Seahawks and 49ers put on a better performance during the game, as they fight for the opportunity to face off against Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 48.

The black dial and bezel really make the diamond and the silver hands sparkle even more, the contrast it's beautiful . I really like this watch and can see myself wearing it everyday to work. One of America's most important and controversial literary figures, Amiri Baraka, died on Thursday from complications after surgery following a long illness, according to his oldest son. Baraka was 79.

Baraka co-founded the Black Arts Movement of the 1960s. His literary legacy is as complicated as the times he lived through, from his childhood where he recalled not being allowed to enter a segregated library to the 2001 attack on the World Trade Center. His poem about that attack, "Somebody Blew Up America," quickly became infamous.

They say its some terrorist,some barbaricA Rab,in Afghanistan ...

In that poem, Baraka hurls indictments at forces of oppression throughout history:

Who the biggest terroristWho change the bibleWho killed the most peopleWho do the most evilWho don't worry about survival

Who have the coloniesWho stole the most landWho rule the worldWho say they good but only do evil

The poem is a furious blaze of references, from the invasion of Grenada to the Jewish Holocaust, and conspiracies ranging from who shot Malcolm X to who killed Princess Di. Then, critics said, Amiri Baraka took it way too far:

Who knew the World Trade Center was gonna get bombedWho told 4000 Israeli workers at the Twin TowersTo stay home that dayWhy did Sharon stay away?

The poem had immediate consequences. Baraka was reviled even by former fans, and his post as the official state poet laureate of New Jersey was dissolved. A few years later, the host of the NPR show News and Notes pressed him about the incident, asking if he had any regrets.

"No I have regrets that they didn't pay me my money cheap criminals. I have regrets about that," Baraka said. "But I don't have regrets about writing the poem. Because the poem was true."

Over his life, Amiri Baraka would express an extremely broad range of beliefs some offensive, some achingly beautiful. He was born in 1934, in Newark, N.J., as Everett LeRoi Jones. As a child, he was transfixed by poetry and music. He remembered the passing of musician Miles Davis for NPR, saying he wanted to be just like Davis as a teenager:

I wanted to look like that too that green shirt and rolled up sleeves on Milestones ... always wanted to look like that. And be able to play "On Green Dolphin Street" or "Autumn Leaves" ... That gorgeous chilling sweet sound. That's the music you wanted playing when you was coming into a joint, or just looking up at the sky with your baby by your side, that mixture of America and them changes, them blue African magic chants.

As a young man, the writer was part of New York's then-mostly white Bohemian community. He hung out with Allen Ginsburg and Jack Kerouac and wrote a book called Blues People that changed people's ideas about the importance of African American culture, says scholar Kumozie Woodard.

"I think the Blues People might be his signature work. And that introduced jazz studies to the American academy," Woodard says.

Then, in 1964, the writer still known as LeRoi Jones wrote a play, The Dutchman, which won a prestigious Obie award and established the playwright as a literary star. It's set on a subway train, where a beautiful white woman strikes up a conversation with a young black man and begins to tease him mercilessly. "You look like you live in New Jersey with your parents and are trying to grow a beard. That's what. You look like you've been reading Chinese poetry," she says.

But the teases become taunts, and the interaction grows ugly. Eventually, she stabs him in the heart. The play, said critics, expressed deep hostility towards women a charge that followed the playwright for much of his life. After the murder of Malcolm X, he left his white wife and two daughters to live by radical black nationalist ideals.

He described it on NPR in 2007: "In the '60s, after Malcolm's death, black artists met and decided we were gonna move into Harlem and bring our art, the most advanced art by black artists, into the community."

The Black Arts movement was a basically a counterpart to Black Power, and Baraka wrote a number of books now seen as foundational for a certain kind of black aesthetic and cultural identity. He converted to Islam, changed his name and in the 1970s, turned towards Marxism. His work would always emphasize social and political issues: "The people's struggle influences art, and the most sensitive artists pick that up and reflect that," he said.

Baraka's work galvanized generations of younger artists, even as his stridency alienated him from the mainstream. But he managed to work in both worlds. He was a full professor for decades at SUNY Stony Brook, and he was recognized by the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. At the same time, he ran a community arts center in Newark with his second wife. Professor Kumozie Woodard says all these roles teacher, activist, artist, leader came together as soon as you walked into Baraka's front door.

"One time I came to his house and there was all this noise downstairs, and I asked him what it was, and he said it was a group of junior high school students who had a jazz history class downstairs," Woodard says. "And then I heard noise upstairs, and I said, 'What's that?" and he said, 'Well, the kids have taken over my office, and they have a newspaper.' "

In Baraka's house and throughout his life the Black Arts Movement never stopped.
